into the woods:the whole picture

Here is the whole picture of into the woods. I find it difficult to get great pictures with my small camera, but tried this morning while the light was good. This has to go to the framers tomorrow, so will be behind glass soon. Now I'm working in the sketchbook and dashing out to garden in the lovely sun - but the wind is icy!

bookbinding

I went on a bookbinding course this weekend- all part of a campaign to broaden my creative outlook. We made two books in a very hardworking day. It was really interesting and totally absorbing. I hope I will carry these into my textiles, as containers, as frames that enhance the work and add a dimension to it.

stitched cards

Here are some stitched cards I am making for my exhibition .

These accompany the show, and deal with the same themes as the pictures on display. They are all machine embroidered on felt.

This is a page from a travelling sketchbook I share with Karen here. Its a response to part of a poem "Roads" by Edward Thomas. I have been playing with layers, cutting through and bonding, and ideas behind roads and journeys. I have just come to the end of a big body of work- 26 pictures - and am off to see them set up in a gallery, and then to work at a "Meet the Maker " day there.

new work

Here is the latest embroidery, ready for framing. It is inspired by a garden at Chelsea Flower Show. I love irises and the effects of light.

woodcuts

I went on a course given by a local woodcutter. This is something I've always wanted to do, and I hoped it would take me out of my embroidery mindset, and point me in new directions. All part of the book idea, so that although I'm working hard for exhibitions, I feel a little more confident about changing my direction at some future time. Not giving up embroidery, but extending it.

another woodcut

Another wood cut I have been working on.

some embroideries

first post

Here is my first posting. Today the weather here in sW england is very wet despite it being july. However a good day for working at my embroideries inside at my sewing machine. I have an exhibition coming up, so am filled with panic. I started this to try and concentrate my mind towards a new direction- making artists books. This is very new.
